Welcome to SRG @ UNR!

We, Shan Research Group (SRG) at University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), are a team of mechanicians, materials engineers and roboticists who are interested in interdisciplinary research in Smart, Hybrid, Active and Nature-inspired Materials, Mechanics, and Machines (SHAN 3M). An expert in these areas, SRG leader Dr. Wanliang Shan spearheads SRG’s multifaceted synergistic research efforts.

We emphasize the fundamental insights from solid mechanics, material science and thermal science to the design and fabrication of soft electronics, multifunctional materials, and other high-performance materials. We use these fundamental insights to impact critical domains such as soft robotics, wearable devices and biomedical devices.

We are located at Palmer Engineering Building on the beautiful serene campus of UNR, which sits in the northern part of Reno, the Biggest Little City in the World. Group activities and research updates can be found on Page News, which are highlighted below:

* NSF award on collaborative research with Dr. Kevin Turner at UPenn: Soft composites with dynamically tunable reversible dry adhesion!!!!!! (Award total 625k, UNR/Shan share 356k, April 01, 2017 – March 31, 2020)

* New Openings for TWO Ph.D. students and two undergraduate researchers (preferably one sophomore and one freshman as of Spring 2017), starting March. 16, 2017, till filled.
